Temporary

There are a few ways I have found to lessen the pain from coming off alcohol. We all know that leaving alcohol behind is a deficit to our bodies systems. It matters not if something is good or bad for us our bodies crave something when habitual intake of a “drug” is withdrawn from it. The DT’s are real but their form is varied. Craving is but one aspect of withdrawal.

I found ice cream to satiate the lack of alcohol. It isn’t the same, obviously, but it does ease the pain and doing so is crucial. Ice cream is benign and not considered and if you can eat it without it becoming yet another bad habit it will help immensely.

I went for chocolate fudge ice cream and ate cartons of it for about one year. It helped more than I thought possible. Yeah, I put on weight but then I began a walking regimen to take the weight off. Exercise cannot be over emphasized in coming down off alcohol or, I hear, drugs. What you are doing is refocusing the mind to think in ways it has been asleep through while you bombarded it with substances. It doesn’t come easily but, then, what does?

I place this here as a suggestion only. I am not a physician, a psychiatrist or even a counselor. However, I am one who suffered through combat and coming home not knowing the mental damage combat causes. There was no help for me as the VA was unaware of PTSD back then. Self-medication is a one way street to ruin and I wanted off that boulevard. Ice cream is cheaper than prescription drugs, therapy or feeling sorry for oneself. Give it a go because, after all, you know what you have to lose, don’t you?
